The LitWorld Story Power Awards were presented to:
Walter Dean Myers, who has written more than 70 published books of fiction, nonfiction, and poetry for children and young adults, including the New York Times bestseller, Monster, and two Newbery Honor books. Myers is the recipient of the Coretta Scott King-Virginia Hamilton Award for Lifetime Achievement; and
Naomi Shihab Nye, who is the author of seven prize-winning poetry anthologies for young readers. Her collection 19 Varieties of Gazelle is a National Book Award finalist and Newbery Medal Honor Book. About Nye, Bill Moyers has said, "She is just a remarkable voice in our time."
The LitWorld Youth Ambassador Award was presented to:
Ben Hirschfeld, highschooler in Hastings-on-Hudson, NY and founder of The Lit! Project, which sends solar-powered lanterns to LitWorld schools and communities.
