Girls LitClubs

Girls LitClubs create a space for women and girls' empowerment through literacy learning. The program is a series of reading and writing workshops for young women and girls, many of whom have experienced trauma, that tap into their extraordinary strengths and meet their personal needs. The workshops support girls' leadership and literacy learning, provide mentoring, and create opportunities for women and girls to read and write in ways that help them explore their sense of self and create supportive social networks. Girls LitClubs position participants for future success and instill communities with literacy leaders to support young women's future development. 35 Girls Clubs are running in the United States, Kenya, Liberia, Ghana and Iraq. We are working to more than double the number of Girls Club sites worldwide in 2011.

Accomplished so far:
• Created a replicable curriculum for empowering reading and writing experiences specifically designed for girls
• Launched Girls Clubs worldwide, including sites in Kenya, Iraq, Sierra Leone, and the Philippines, with U.S. sites in multiple New York City locations, Port Chester, NY, and Greenwich, CT
