  • Special Event with the Amherst Alumni Association, October 4, 2009

    The Amherst Association of New York City is hosting a "Read-Around" to support LitWorld, with readings by Pam Allyn, guest author Harlan Coben, and students from The Children's Village. The event will be held at the Hue-Man Bookstore & Cafe from 1 to 3 pm, refreshments will be served.

    Share your love of literature by spending an afternoon reading with fellow alumni and students from The Children's Village. Bring lightly used books to donate to a "book-swap," where participants will be able to donate old favorites to be re-sold for $1 each. All proceeds will go to LitWorld. Clean out your bookshelf, support two great organizations and pick up some new favorites!

  • Partnership with Reader's Digest for Make It Matter Day, October 3, 2009

    We are pleased to announce that we have partnered with Reader's Digest to participate in their international event Make it Matter Day. Reader's Digest holds a vote every year to determine "the cause that matters most" and this year's choice was literacy and education, a perfect match for LitWorld!

    On this day, local and national organizations across America will come together to rally behind literacy and education. Over 100 events will be held at schools, Boys & Girls Clubs, YMCAs and libraries. Visit the official site to find out what's happening near you and how you can participate!

    LitWorld is honored to have been selected to partner with Readers Digest on Make it Matter Day and we are creating digital books... Join us at realelearners.com and create your own digital book that LitWorld kids all over the world can read!

  • Recent Partnership Developments

    We are pleased to be partnering with Jeffrey Sachs' legendary think tank, the Millennium Cities Initiative at the Earth Institute at Columbia University, to bring teachers and administrators from the Department of Education in Kisumu to our TALL (Teachers as Literacy Leaders) Institute in Nairobi, Kenya.

    In addition, we are now also officially partnering with the Care and Protection of Children Learning Network in the Program on Forced Migration and Health at the Columbia University School of Public Health to co-create The Resilience Project for the Scholastic Foundation.
  • LitWorld Africa Trip 2009

    The LitWorld team will return to Kenya and Liberia in July, expanding our programming to meet the overwhelming response we've received. In our four weeks of travel, we will train hundreds of educators who teach thousands of children! We will share photos and stories of our travels with the LitWorld community upon our return in August.
  • LitWorld Benefit at Lincoln Center

    In May 2009, we were honored to host 300 supporters at our first annual LitWorld Benefit in the Stanley Kaplan Penthouse at Lincoln Center. Our Story Power Award recipients, Marcus Samuelsson and Faith Ringgold, inspired the LitWorld community to continue the important and meaningful work towards global literacy.

  • The Resilience Project Update

    The Scholastic Foundation has announced a grant to LitWorld for The Resilience Project, a writing initiative to bring stories and the power of words to refugee children. Stay tuned for more details on this innovative and exciting new project.
