LitWorld is founded on the belief that change through literacy needs to happen in two ways: Advocacy and Education. Our work falls into these categories.

Advocacy: We spread the message that Words Change Worlds through events like World Read Aloud Day, which in its first year on March 3, 2010 reached over 40,000 people in 35 countries, and through partnerships with organizations including Global Action for Children, Global Campaign for Education, Reader's Digest, Scholastic, and Penguin and The Pearson Foundation's We Give Books initiative.

Education: We work with communities worldwide to identify and train local literacy leaders. We create a literacy strategy that starts with access to print and leads to local leadership, building social franchises for literacy. We also offer multiple options for short-term leadership training through programs like the Family Story Power Project, Girls Clubs and FLY.
