LitWorld partners with the great organizations Red Rose School and the Children of Kibera Foundation, Youth Action International, and Children's Village to sponsor and develop its humanitarian literacy efforts. The Red Rose School and The Children of Kibera Foundation LitWorld has embarked on a long-term partnership with the Red Rose School in the Kibera slums in Nairobi to bring Kenyan educators innovative teaching methods and strategies. Red Rose School is a beacon of hope for the children of Kibera. Led by educator Ken Okoth, who himself grew up in Kibera and is now a history teacher, Red Rose provides excellence in education for children who are HIV/AIDS orphans. Okoth is also the founding director of the Children of Kibera Foundation, which serves thousands of children in Kibera, the second largest slum in the world. There are over 200,000 AIDS orphans in this area alone. Children of Kibera supports schools of excellence and scholarships to create opportunities for orphans and vulnerable children living in Kibera and to help them realize their dreams as productive, healthy citizens. Youth Action International Through LitWorld's partnership with Youth Action International, we are bringing effective teacher training and women's leadership workshops to communities most in need of support. Led by the renowned activist and leader Kimmie Weeks, who at age nine, after nearly being buried alive as a result of disease, hunger and suffering, pledged to spend his life helping children. YAI's programs focus on promoting the wellbeing and empowerment of war-affected youth, former child soldiers, and children who were otherwise associated with fighting forces. These young survivors need interventions to assist them in recovery from extended periods of civil unrest in their regions -experiences which left them with severe social, behavioral, educational and other developmental gaps. YAI also serves women who have been marginalized as a result of civil war, and provides educational and recreational opportunities to children. The communities YAI serves are former rebel strongholds in Liberia, Sierra Leone, and Uganda. |
