A Letter of Thanks:

Dear All,

I don't know how to thank you for the experience you have given all our children today, in broadening our School-to-School partnerships.

May this be the beginning of great linkages and the creativity, innovation and partnerships that issue from this connectedness.

While I know there were challenges every step of the way -- even well beyond the last minute, in some cases, with Ghana losing power altogether, for instance! -- I also saw the excitement glowing on some of the children's faces, as did you -- I saw impoverished American children straining to read their stories to their Ghanaian peers, I learned that the Bamako students had been practicing their English so they might communicate more smoothly with their counterparts in Kenya and Washington, DC, and I saw a teacher cry, about how beautifully her students were writing and reading during this exercise, because of how thrilled they had been to meet, to read aloud with, and to make personal connections to YOUR students.

This has to be the future, right? To link people across oceans, across the seemingly impossible divides, to create a new solidarity, a new reality, a new, more humane world of brothers and sisters.

YOU all are the leaders in this. This was only the first attempt: of course we welcome your suggestions and ideas, as to how to improve, deepen and expand these linkages. With a little practice, we'll get better at it, the technology will get better, and next time, Ghana will be up to speed, as she and her children deserve.
