Dear LitWorld Friend,
In 2011, the United Nations declared October 11th as the International Day of the Girl, a day dedicated to recognizing the rights of girls. Since then, LitWorld has celebrated this day, rallying our global community to join our "Stand Up for Girls" campaign, where we advocate for every girl's right to share her story and transform the world.
The LitWorld community has proudly celebrated the International Day of the Girl for the past 13 years, and this year was no different.
Our global partners commemorated this day by putting together special activities to empower girls in their local communities, and we couldn’t be prouder to stand united in this mission alongside them.
Thanks to your support, we can continue to Stand Up for Girls not just on October 11th, but every single day.

COLOMBIA: Museo Rayo’s “Todos Por Las Niñas” 5K Run
We are inspired by our partners at Museo Rayo in Colombia, who kicked off their week-long celebrations with their annual 5K run. In addition to the race, they hosted several activities, including self-portrait making, poetry, and a movie night. They ended the week with a special concert celebration featuring poet Lucía Patiño.
We applaud Museo Rayo for their effervescent, contagious energy!
KENYA: Kenya Education Fund Reflects on What it Means to be a Girl Where They Live
Meanwhile in Kenya, our partners at Kenya Education Fund held a celebration with 6 different communities (Kibera, Kawangware, Kayole, Makadara, Lodwar and Mombasa).
In their celebrations, participants shared what it means to be a girl where they live. They reflected on their hometown, and how they interact with different locations and groups within their community. During the activity, they drew a community map specific to the theme “This is What it Means to Be a Girl Where I Live.”
They finished by writing letters to their community, where participants shared the unique strengths and challenges that exist within their town, addressing those which only impact women and girls. It was an opportunity to reflect on how they can make a difference, both within themselves and those around them.
Thank you to Kenya Education Fund for holding this safe & uplifting space for girls.
HONDURAS: Un Mundo Gathers 75 Women & Girls for Empowerment Workshops
In Honduras, the team at Un Mundo gathered more than 75 women and girls to participate in activities that promote their personal and community growth. From talks on mental, sexual, and reproductive health, to workshops on self-esteem and girls' rights, every moment was an opportunity to empower participants.
We thank and commend the Un Mundo team for their steadfast commitment to Standing Up for Girls, and their partnership with us to impact the lives of children in their communities!
ZAMBIA: Reach for All Encourages Girls to Envision their Future
Looking to Zambia, our partners at Reach for All held a certificate ceremony to recognize the leadership potential of all of their participants. Under the theme "Girls Vision For The Future", the participants took turns to share and reflect on future versions of themselves. By sharing their goals with their peers, they create a space for collective imagination and care.
We are grateful to Reach for All, for their mission to inspire girls to reach higher!
