Take the “Build a Story” Challenge

In 2022, LitWorld® introduced the Build a Story challenge for World Read Aloud Day to encourage readers and writers of all ages to share their stories with the world—and we received tons of amazing submissions from around the globe.

This year, the Build A Story Challenge will be powered by our partners at Gravity!

Build your own unique story using the prompts below, and record a video of you reading it aloud via Gravity (scroll below to record) to share with a worldwide community of storytellers!

Step 1: Build Your Story

There are so many ways to build a story, but a lot of stories have a very similar structure. They typically have a beginning, where we’re introduced to characters and a conflict, a middle, where our characters attempt to solve their conflict, and an end, where we get to see the results of our characters' actions. Use the prompts below to craft your own story with a clear beginning, middle, and end! You can use your imagination to make your story as fantastic as you'd like, or you can use your own life and experiences for inspiration!

What stands in the way of their objective?

4. "So…"

What does the character do to overcome their obstacle?

5. "But then…"

Add a conflict!

6. "Because of that..."

How does the character respond to the conflict?

7. "Finally..."

How does the story end?

Step 2: Share Your Story with the World!
